I design and make contemporary furniture. My work is always carried out with a consideration for environmental sustainability.

I believe that designers have a responsibility to address environmental issues when developing products, and it should be considered of equal importance to an object’s functional and aesthetic qualities.

My ethos for sustainable design focuses on creating products that are simple in form, functional, unobtrusive, lightweight, durable, and mostly made from wood – which I see as useful CO2. My work also shows a strong connection with the making process through visible joints, and ‘honest’ construction; as a result each product has an inherent human feel.

I manufacture these pieces by hand, and therefore have a deep understanding of, and engagement with, my materials; this largely informs my designs, which are mostly developed at the workbench rather than at the drawing board or on a CAD program.
