Crafts Council

A dream commission; designing, making and installing space defining furniture for the new home for craft in the UK. Crafts Council on Pentonville Road, London, underwent a transformation in 2020 and we created much of the interior furniture using English chestnut and ash. We designed the reception desk to blend both green woodworking and furniture making techniques. It sits alongside the magazine rack and seating in the main foyer, framed by ‘jumbo’ skirting and architraves made from ebonised chestnut. The study area of the main gallery is lined with vast bookcases, made from ebonised and unebonised chestnut. The family of study tables, benches and stools are made in English ash. This project blends craft with batch production; we split, steam bent and used digital means of manipulating wood to help transform this important space.
