>Today, for the first time in about a year, I went to a timber yard to buy my wood rather than just cutting rods from a copse. This wood is for a commission, which won’t be hazel, so it is made from locally grown English Ash. I absolutely love visiting Stuart H Somerscales’ timber yard – it carries so much stock of a large variety of English timber from Chestnut to Sycamore, all stacked up in several large barns. There was so much air drying timber when I went today that most of it wasn’t under cover as the barns were full to the rafters.

It makes me really happy to know that there is such high demand for all of this English timber, which has mostly been grown locally.

They don’t have a website but if you’re buying timber please consider doing so from Somerscales, near Grimsby.
