Aesop
We took Aesop’s meticulously researched design cues from libraries and bookshops around Marylebone, London and realised them with solid English-grown wood. We made almost everything in store from fitted joinery and seating, sink units and door portals, through to a freestanding curved fragrance armoire with rotating internals. Pushing the limits of what’s possible with solid wood, we created curved forms by ‘kerfing’, cutting away material from the backside of the wood enabling it to comfortably bend leaving the solid wood at full thickness around it to keep it strong. Through experimentation, we made naturally golden oak look dark and rich without using synthetic dyes, but instead an ancient recipe of lime and water.
