Lea Bridge Library
We collaborated with architects Studio Weave to mill and make all the internal joinery and furniture for their extension at the rear of the existing Lea Bridge Edwardian red brick Library building. Working closely with Waltham Borough Council we used trees felled across the publicly owned streets and parks across London including London plane, Poplar, Sycamore, Ash, Holm Oak, Turkey Oak, Sequoia, Horse Chestnut, and more. This broad range of species gives the space a rich variety of textures and tones. We created an in-built banquette with fluted timber shelving that stretches along the pavilion. We designed and made custom desks, collapsable tables, coffee tables, stackable chairs, and upholstered sofas for the new space, utilising 25 cubic meters of wood which would have otherwise been wasted. We’re thrilled that this project has been nominated for a Civic Trust Award (2023).
