The Sebastian Cox Kitchen by deVOL - launching at Clerkenwell Design Week

We've got a really busy Clerkenwell Design Week ahead of us. As well as launching our Invisible Store of Happiness, we'll be unveiling our new collaboration with deVOL kitchens.

The Sebastian Cox Kitchen by deVOL seeks to bring British hardwoods - particularly English beech - back to the British kitchen. 

deVOL are based just outside Loughborough in a fantastic 16th Century Mill, on the river Soar. They share our passion for simplicity, function and craftsmanship, and have been very keen to adopt British hardwoods and textural qualities such as woven panels into this new range.

They have a team of highly skilled designers and craftsmen and we were really lucky to get to share ideas with them. We wanted to show the hand of the maker on these pieces as much as possible, and the base and wall cabinets have visible joints and textural bandsawn fronts.

As always, we were keen for this range to feel as lightweight as possible, and for the kitchen to 'breathe', with subtle expansion gaps and woven panels in the unit backs. 

Designing aside, the deVOL team have a great approach to life and work; something we think we should all aspire to. The atmosphere in Cotes Mill is great, they work hard and have fun. One lunchtime their Director, Paul, took Sebastian and a member of the design team out on the river Soar in his kayak. We dropped the anchor and had a picnic!

deVOL have a showroom in Clerkenwell, so it seemed right that we launched this new collaboration during Clerkenwell Design Week - the Sebastian Cox Kitchen will be on show in the Detail exhibition near St John's Gate.
